The Spice Girls became popular when I was in the fourth grade and I was obsessed with them! The other day I heard “Say you’ll be there” and though to myself, they actually have positive messages for young girls in their songs. Yes, they wore sexy little outfits, but more importantly they valued “Girl Power” and friendship. I recently babysat for a 4 and 7 year old who were obsessed with Ke$ha, which mortified me. They knew all of the following words:

to her song. If you listen to the top 40 hits, so many of the songs are about getting wasted and hooking up. It’s really sad. So, thank you Scary, Baby, Sporty, Ginger and Posh for making me value the important things in life and not a bottle of Jack.
